Man injures leg playing "chicken" on personal watercraft
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI -- A 27-year-old Sterling Heights man suffered a leg injury after police say he was playing "chicken" on a personal watercraft at Bald Eagle Lake in Brandon Township.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office responded around 6 p.m. Sunday, May 27 to the lake near South Ortonville Road (M-15) for a report of two personal watercrafts operating in a reckless manner.
Two men were reportedly playing the game and spraying each other with water being kicked up by their personal watercrafts when they collided at the south end of the lake, police said.
One of the men received an injury to his leg and was transported by paramedics from the Brandon Township Fire Department to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township for additional treatment.
Both men involved in the incident were cited by police for reckless operation, operating without a boating safety certificate, and operating without a personal floatation device.
It it the responsibility of home owners to make sure their guests know the rules of boating and PWC use, and that they be properly certified, and wear life jacket.
